WWI Blue Max or Pour Le Merite. This was Imperial Germany's highest award for bravery. Instituted in 1740 by Frederick The Great, the Pour Le Merite has been popularized by it's association with the famous German flying Aces of WWI, notably Manfred von Richhofen. This is an extremely fine copy of this famous award and not to be confused with the many cheaper versions available today. It is the 'Godet' style with the unique suspension unique to this famous manufacturers production of the Blue Max. Finished in vivid blue enamel as per the genuine item and finished in matt 24K gold plate.The eagles between the arms of the cross are carefully pierced and even the extra engraving on the wording 'Pour Le Merite' has been accurately reproduced.Offered complete with suspension loop and generous length of the correct black and silver woven ribbon.
