S.A. Sports Badge in Gold. Originally instituted in November 1933 by Ernst Roehm and sanctioned by Hitler in 1935, the S.A. Sports Badge was awarded in three classes as a recognition of proficiency in sports and military sports exercises and was awarded to members of both the S.A. and S.S. This is the 2nd version of the badge and measures 47mm x 57mm with the usual design depicting an upturned sword on a swastika surrounded by an oakleaf wreath. The reverse has an inscription in German which translates as ‘Property of the S.A. Sports badge main office’. This Gold grade example is die struck from brass with a gilt finish. Complete with the correct German style hinge.
