D.R.L. Sports badge Bronze. This final version of the award was introduced in 1937 by the German National Physical Training Union (D.RL.) in three classes as a recognition of proficiency in sports. The design of the badge, which measures 39mm x 48mm, incorporates the initials ‘D.R.L.’ within a wreath at the base of which is a large swastika in relief. This Bronze grade example is die struck from brass with an antique bronze finish. Complete with the correct German style hinge and full maker’s name on the reverse. Although a civilian award the D.R.L. Sports Badge was often awarded sericemen to an worn on the military uniform.
